Self-leadership @Malawi

Aspiring to help students from all over the globe become global leaders and community builders, the Self-leadership @Malawi workshop provides free self-leadership workshops & lectures for students in Malawi. The program incorporates and provides time management, goal-setting, and life-planning activities to help the students acknowledge their dreams and missions and live by them. I hope that this program will be an opportunity and resource for the students to achieve their aspirations and become world leaders.

Session #1: 4-weeks Self-Leadership Basics

Week 1: Dream List

In the first week of the workshop, we worked on creating our dream list. We have dissected several cases of "dreams written come true" like Jim Carrey's and reflected on our dreams. Then, we listed our dreams in what we want to do, places we want to visit, things we want to learn, who we want to be, and what we want to share. It was a fruitful session of organizing our aspirations and believing we can accomplish them.

Week 2: Mission Statement

In the second week, we worked on defining our purpose for life--Mission. We learned that "why" is more important than what; that is, the purpose and reason for the action is much more important than the action itself. So we decided to set up our purpose of life with a mission statement. Brainstorming on whom we want to help, what we want to contribute, and how we want to accomplish it, we wrote our mission statement, aspiring to help others through our life.

Week 3: Yearly Plans

As we have already set up the bigger purpose (dream list and mission statement) of life for the last two weeks, we worked on breaking down and actualizing those purposes into practical yearly goals. We made a blueprint for our year by setting goals with OATE (objective, activities, schedule, and evaluation) planning. Through careful planning and purposeful goal-setting, we will go step-by-step to achieving our missions and aspirations.

Week 4: Monthly & Weekly Plans

As the final step of the self-leadership program, we touched upon the monthly & weekly plans. We broke down the bigger missions, dreams, and goals to smaller and everyday plans so that we can actualize what we've written in our dream list and mission statement. We talked about the importance of a purpose and action being together, as well. A purpose without an action can't do anything, and an action without a purpose is useless. Through this 4-weeks program we have set both the purpose and the action for our future.
